Immersive Winter Lights at the Gardens

24th October until 31st October 2026

This winter, as darkness  begins to fall across West Dorset, the Subtropical Gardens come alive with a magical world of light.

Abbotsbury Illuminate invites you to wander through the gardens and woodland valley, where familiar plants and pathways are transformed after dark. Follow the glowing trail and discover vibrant displays that bring the landscape to life, with light, colour, shapes and textures around every turn.

And this year, there’s even more to explore. Our longest Illuminate route yet takes you further into the gardens, with more spectacular displays and magical moments to discover along the way.

Whether you’re looking for a special family evening, add a glow to your season or simply something a little different to brighten a dark night, Illuminate is an experience for all ages.

If you live in West Dorset, Abbotsbury Illuminate is an experience not to be missed. Gather the family and come and see the gardens in a whole new light.

Family tickets are available, with no booking fee and free car parking included.

Illuminate Accessibility Route

The accessibility route is suitable for visitors using an all-terrain wheelchair or mobility scooter. The route follows a combination of compacted gravel and tarmac paths. There are some drainage grilles along the route, and although most of the cabling for the light installations has been concealed beneath the ground to minimise the need for ramps, there may be some uneven surfaces. There are no steps on the accessibility route, but visitors should be aware that there are some steep slopes, both uphill and downhill.Due to the terrain and slopes, visitors using mobility equipment should ensure that their wheelchair or scooter is suitable for outdoor use and capable of managing uneven surfaces and gradients.

Please allow approximately 45 minutes to complete the route. The accessibility route follows the full Illuminate trail, with no shorter route or opportunity to turn back part-way through, so please ensure you are comfortable completing the full route before setting off.
